Taylor Bond growing the Children's Orchard Franchise?
Image via Wikipedia
The best thing about the internet is that the past is much more nearer than before.
Look at this statement from the CEO of Children's Orchard and his expectations of growth in franchise units.
"Since assuming his position with Children's Orchard in January 2004, Bond, whose previous experiences in franchising include high-level positions at Domino's Pizza and Computer Renaissance, is bringing renewed growth to Children's Orchard.
As a parent and former franchise owner, Bond knows first-hand the costs associated with raising children in today's fashion-conscious world.
By applying experiences from his personal life along with lessons he learned during his years with other franchise concepts, Bond is well on his way to achieving his goal of having 300 locations open by 2007."
Well, that sounds lovely.
Mr. Bond no doubt has a number experiences from his personal life.
No doubt there are important life lessons, too.
But, now that we are here in 2009, just how close did our man Bond come to "achieving his goal of having 300 locations open by 2007"?
Well, I suppose that we could ring him up and ask about the state of resale business.
But I have better idea.
Why not simply find the answer in the 2008 Franchise Disclosure Document for Children's orchard?
And here is the table, right from the Item 20 of the Children's Orchard Franchise Disclosure Document.

Hmm, perhaps Mr. Taylor Bond might want to re think his lessons learned, and personal experiences, since under his watch around 10% of system has shrunk.
I would suggest that negative growth over three years is a lesson or experience that the franchisees should not emulate.
Over at the Indepedent Franchisee's Association new website, Orchard Cooperative, we may yet hear rumbling of discontent with Mr. Bond, his lessons and life experiences which led to this decline in this franchise system.

Seems to me that Children's Orchard is growing in the wrong direction. If the goal is to reach 300 stores, shouldn't they be adding - not closing?
Or is this the Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons franchise marketing strategy? Start mature and work backward? Anyway, I found your post interesting and humorous. I crossposted here:

Good stuff.
